Beyond Open Source Investigations

GBG Consulting, LLC. was established in 2023 to address a critical gap in law enforcement and prosecutorial training. Recognizing that most instruction on social media investigations focused solely on open-source techniques, we saw an urgent need for practical, legal-focused education.

Our mission is to empower investigators with the skills to draft effective legal process to social media and technology platforms, and to analyze the data returned to locate valuable evidence for criminal cases. 

Since our founding, we have been committed to providing comprehensive, up-to-date training to law enforcement professionals, setting a new standard in technology based investigative education.

We are focused on making technology based investigations less intimidating for inexperienced investigators. Our students typically leave our courses inspired and prepared to put their training to use.

About the Owner / Presenter

The presenter is actively employed as a Detective with a Bay Area (California) police department.

The presenter has conducted numerous investigations involving the trafficking and sale of firearms and narcotics by “plugs” through social media applications such as Instagram, Snapchat, and more recently Telegram, as well as money laundering through applications such as CashApp and Venmo.

The presenter regularly presents and instructs students on social media and technology-based narcotics and firearms trafficking investigations, as well as financial crimes investigations. The presenter has instructed thousands of law enforcement officers and prosecutors nationwide on those topics since 2022, including at numerous conferences, summits and courses. The presenter also is employed adjunct faculty for a Junior College and instructs for a POST Certified Basic Police Academy.

The presenter has been recognized by his law enforcement agency as “Detective of the Year” twice, and has been recognized as the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for the California Robbery Investigator’s Association and the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators (1st Runner Up) based on investigations he has conducted.
