Information on Hosting a Course

We regularly receive information requests for our requirements and procedures for hosting a course.  In summary, we typically:

Our training fees to host a course are comparable to other training companies. We avoid excessive fees, but focus on quality instruction (which takes time to prepare for).

General Terms

  1. TRAINING ELIGIBILITY:

GBG Consulting, LLC. provides training exclusively for law enforcement agencies / organizations, prosecutorial agencies / organizations, and associations or organizations affiliated with law enforcement (such as narcotics officers associations). This includes conferences, summits or training events for the above-described organizations which focus on law enforcement or prosecutorial training.

Note that conferences with mixed audiences of law enforcement personnel and private sectors (such as Open Source Investigations Training which include private investigators or Human Trafficking Conferences which include victim advocate organizations, etc.) will be addressed on a case-by-case basis. We may alter portions of presentations which are attended by non-law enforcement personnel, or we may require that only law enforcement personnel attending such conferences attend our courses. This can be discussed with GBG Consulting, LLC. beforehand.

At this time, GBG Consulting, LLC. is not equipped to provide training to the private sector, education sectors, or private investigators.

  2. STUDENT CREDENTIALS:

All students must be verified law enforcement (sworn or civilian staff such as analysts) or prosecutors actively employed for a public agency. This is due to the sensitive nature of our presentations / courses, including case studies. GBG Consulting, LLC. expects any hosting agency or organization to confirm that all registered attendees meet the above eligibility requirements, and reserves the right to confirm this.

  3. HOSTING SPACE / TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS:

Any hosting agencies or organizations are required to secure an appropriate meeting, conference or training site. GBG Consulting, LLC. is not responsible for any costs associated with securing such a training site. Such a training site must have adequate seating, tables (required for some classes which students need laptops), projectors, screens, sound systems, microphones (if a larger space), and audio/visual equipment capable of connecting the instructor’s laptop to projectors and sound systems. Quality wireless internet is also required. Note that most of our classes are particularly multimedia intensive, and we strongly recommend large projection screens which are clearly visible from the “back row” of student seating. (Small television monitors are not suitable for most presentations). We strongly recommend that venue IT staff be available during setup to assist with connectivity and audio-visual troubleshooting.

  4. INSURANCE

Hosting agencies/organizations are responsible for ensuring any venue used for hosting training events is adequately insured for general liability, personal injury, and property damage. GBG Consulting, LLC. is not liable for injuries, losses, or damages occurring during the event.

  5. COURSE REGISTRATION / ATTENDANCE MONITORING / CERTIFICATES

Hosting agencies or organizations are required to handle all course registrations, advertising, marketing or promotion of training events, registration fees, student billing, attendance (sign ins) on the day of the course, and certificates (if desired) at the conclusion of the course. GBG Consulting, LLC. will not handle any student registrations, attendance or certificates. Any student information collected by the hosting agency remains the responsibility of the agency in accordance with applicable privacy laws.

  6. POST (OR EQUIVALENT) CERTIFICATIONS

While many of our courses have previously been certified by law enforcement training accreditation agencies such as POST, GBG Consulting, LLC. will not handle any POST certifications (or equivalencies) for our courses, and that responsibility rests with the hosting agency and their local POST or equivalent training accreditation contacts. Any data entry required to give students “POST” credit also rests with the hosting agency. With that being said, GBG Consulting, LLC. will provide required documentation to facilitate this if specifically requested by the hosting agency such as the Instructor CV and POST style course outline.

  7. STUDENT CONDUCT / REMOVAL

In accordance with our commitment to providing the highest quality training to law enforcement professionals, GBG Consulting, LLC. expects all students attending training to be professional and respectful in order to foster a positive learning environment for all students. We reserve the right to remove any student from the course who is intoxicated, disruptive, disrespectful, or poses a safety risk.

  8. STUDENT REQUESTS DIRECTLY TO GBG CONSULTING, LLC.

GBG Consulting, LLC. will provide students with downloadable files, resources and “go by” templates during their course. GBG Consulting, LLC. will work with students before and well after the course to ensure appropriate delivery. GBG Consulting, LLC. will make themselves available, at no cost, to students for no less than 90 days after the course for questions or inquiries. Any requests by students for receipts, billing issues, certificates of attendance, POST credit, etc. will be referred to the original hosting agency.

  9. PRESENTATIONS & MULTIMEDIA

All presentation materials (specifically PowerPoint presentations, videos, audio files, and associated multimedia) are considered confidential. These educational / training materials will not be shared with students or hosting agencies / organizations.

  10. FILMING / RECORDING PRESENTATIONS

Hosting agencies / organizations are strictly prohibited from audio / video recording any presentations by GBG Consulting, LLC. without express written permission by GBG Consulting, LLC. This will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, and we are generally more open to allowing short sessions of filming for event promotional videos as opposed to filming entire presentations to show other officers at a later time.

  11. DISCLOSURE OF TRAINING / STUDENT FEEDBACK

GBG Consulting, LLC. reserves the right to disclose any host agencies / organizations as past clients on our website, marketing materials, and within instructor CV or resumes for the purpose of establishing training, experience and courtroom expertise. We also reserve the right to use student feedback provided via email or course surveys as testimonials for our website (students will not be named). A non-disclosure agreement may be requested if desired by host agencies / organizations. Any agency or organization not requesting such an agreement are considered to have accepted this disclosure. We will never share operationally sensitive or investigative details without written permission.

  12. WHAT GBG CONSULTING PROVIDES TO HOST AGENCIES / ORGANIZATIONS:

GBG Consulting, LLC. will provide host agencies / organizations with any of the following, upon request:
    1. Course Description
    2. Course Flyer Template (Editable)
    3. Course Outline for Students / Command Staff
    4. Instructor Biography
    5. Expanded Course Outline for POST (or equivalent) accreditation
    6. Instructor CV for POST (or equivalent) accreditation
    7. Electronic Course Survey Results (after presentation)

  13. WHAT GBG CONSULTING WILL NOT PROVIDE:

GBG Consulting LLC. will not provide host agencies / organizations with PowerPoints, videos, training materials or other instructional materials which may be provided to students attending the course.

We are aware that some organizations or conferences may want to “proofread” or review our presentations beforehand for quality control. We do not provide presentations for this purpose, but assure clients that our presentations always meet our stringent quality expectations that we stand behind.

We also are aware that some agencies may desire copies of our presentations to share with investigators who are not able to attend, or to post online within their “training” sections of their websites for transparency. Due to our training materials containing law enforcement sensitive materials, the amount of time committed to building quality presentations, and the fact that we constantly update our training, we are unable to comply with such requests.

Costs for Presenting, Surcharges & Billing

  1. FIXED RATE INSTRUCTION (PREFERRED):

Our preferred method of billing / course fees is to charge a set rate at a per-class basis. The rate is dependent on several factors, including whether the class is a 1-day or 2-day class, distance / travel for the instructor, the number of anticipated students, and the cost agencies or organizations plan to charge students to attend.

Hosting agencies and organizations are respectfully reminded that our fixed rate instruction costs not only encompass actual lecture time, but also are inclusive for the countless hours required to prepare the PowerPoint presentations and videos, communicate with hosting agency to coordinate the training, travel to and from the training site, stay out of town for multiple day training events, and communicate with numerous students after the course.

  2. PER-STUDENT RATE INSTRUCTION (NOT PREFERRED):

We prefer not to charge “per student” as it complicates billing and is variable up to the date of instruction, however we respect that some government agencies require this type of billing or contract. If this is required, it is our standard practice to set a “minimum” number of students with hosting agencies or organizations being required to pay the difference between the number of registered students and the “minimum” (or the course may be subject to cancellation if minimum student amounts are not met). In the event of “per student” instruction, all registrations and billings are still the responsibility of the host agency. Additionally, registration must be closed 1 week prior to the course and last minute cancellations are non-refundable with this structure of billing.

  3. STUDENT REGISTRATION FEES DISCLOSURE

Host agencies and organizations are welcome to set their own reasonable registration fees or course pricing for students to compensate agencies or organizations for their time handling registrations, billings, cancellations, attendance, POST certification, and course completion certificates, as well as any expenses associated with hosting trainings such as event space or audio-visual equipment. These rates vary between agencies and organizations. Any host agencies charging students to attend training presented by GBG Consulting, LLC. shall disclose the student rates to GBG Consulting, LLC. before a final fixed rate for instruction is set.

  4. NUMBER OF STUDENTS (MAXIMUM / MINIMUM)

Fixed rate courses are subject to a maximum number of students, as our fixed rate is variable depending on the number of students. For example, 25 students vs. 100 students will have different fixed rates due to the increased work-load for the instructor to prepare course materials and respond to student requests after the course. Exceeding the maximum number of students negotiated will result in a surcharge. There are no “minimum” number of students for fixed rate courses.

As described above, for “Per Student” billing, a minimum number of students will be set. Agencies or hosting organizations who do not meet this minimum number of students will be required to pay the difference, or cancel the class.

  5. CLASS CANCELLATION

GBG Consulting, LLC. reserves the right to cancel courses up to 72 hours beforehand due to instructor sickness, injury or unavailability due to emergencies. This is not our standard practice and this has never happened before.

Hosting agencies / organizations are entitled to cancel courses with 30 days notice without penalty. Any courses cancelled between 7 and 30 days prior to the date of training will be subject to a 20% cancellation rate. Any courses cancelled between the date of training and 7 days prior will be subject to a 50% cancellation rate.

Neither party shall be liable for failure to perform due to causes beyond their control, including acts of God, war, terrorism, or natural disasters.

  6. ESTIMATES / AGREEMENTS / CHANGES / BILLING

Below is a summary of our billing practices for complete transparency:

    1. WRITTEN AGREEMENT & ESTIMATE

Prior to agreeing to any training or speaking events, GBG Consulting LLC. will furnish the hosting agency / organization a written agreement and estimate specifying the speaker fee, terms, and any applicable surcharges, course minimums and/or maximums, and cancellation dates / fees. This agreement must be signed by a designated / authorized party for the hosting agency / organization before training dates are scheduled.

    2. CHANGES TO INITIAL CONTRACT / AGREEMENT

GBG Consulting, LLC. understands that situations may change than when courses are initially agreed to. We respectfully ask that all changes be documented in writing via email (not verbal or in person). Changes to the number of student attendees, locations, etc. may result in additional charges.

    3. BILLING

Billing will be provided within a reasonable time frame of the course and is due within 30 days unless otherwise negotiated. GBG Consulting, LLC. can accept checks, wire transfers, bank transfers, or credit / debit cards (with an applicable surcharge to cover expenses related to access card processing fees). We respect that government billing takes time, however a 10% late fee may be charged after 90 days if delays are not previously discussed or agreed upon.

    4. THIRD PARTY BILLING

There are many situations where billing is split between a hosting agency / organization and a third party “sponsor” of a training event or conference class. There are also situations where billing is entirely covered by a third-party sponsor. GBG Consulting, LLC. agrees to work with any third-party for billing as long as this is disclosed to GBG Consulting, LLC. and GBG Consulting, LLC. is authorized by the hosting agency / organization to discuss this billing with the third-party sponsor. Any expenses agreed upon by the hosting agency / organization and not paid by the third-party sponsor are the responsibility of the hosting agency / organization.

    5. BILLING DISPUTES

We strive to resolve any billing disputes fairly and promptly. However, if payment is not made as agreed, we reserve the right to pursue all available legal remedies to recover the outstanding balance.

  7. POSSIBLE SURCHARGES TO SPEAKER FEE

The following are surcharges which may be applied to the speaker fee on a case-by-case basis:

    1. CUSTOM PRESENTATIONS / KEYNOTE SPEAKER

For any events or keynote speaking outside our normal course offerings which require the presenter to create a custom tailored presentation, course outline, etc., GBG Consulting LLC. reserves the right to apply a surcharge to the speaker fee to compensate for the time (oftentimes 40+ hours) required to prepare the presentation and course materials which comply with our quality standards.

    2. 50+ STUDENTS

For any courses, presentations or speaking engagements with more than 50 students, GBG Consulting LLC. reserves the right to apply a surcharge for the large number of students to compensate for the time spent after the course answering student questions, emails, requests for investigative assistance, etc. For example: Typically after a conference class with 100+ students, the instructor is inundated with dozens of emails and requests for investigative assistance in the weeks that follow.

    3. STUDENT ATTENDANCE FEES BEYOND COSTS FOR HOSTING TRAINING

In cases where hosting agencies / organizations desire to make a marginal or reasonable profit off our training events beyond recouping costs associated to hosting the training (such as for future training events, etc.), GBG Consulting, LLC. reserves the right to review the anticipated student fees and registration numbers and charge a surcharge to ensure such profit is equitable and is not excessive to students. GBG Consulting, LLC. believes in fair business practices and transparency, particularly in our dealings with government agencies, and ensuring our courses are appropriately priced for students to attend without excessive and unnecessary charges.

    4. CONFERENCES

GBG Consulting, LLC. is equipped to present in general sessions, as a keynote speaker, or in multiple breakout sessions (same day or different days), and is willing to present different classes at different breakout sessions if desired. Fixed rate for instruction may vary based on the needs of a specific conference.

    5. TRAVEL EXPENSES / AIRFARE / HOTELS / PER-DIEM

Our instructor is based in Northern California. Any trainings outside the greater San Francisco Bay Area are subject to a variable travel surcharge based on the distance traveled (IE: Travel expenses for training on the East Coast will be higher than travel to Southern California or Nevada). GBG Consulting, LLC. reserves the right to be compensated for instructor travel expenses for all training courses, and they will typically not be “inclusive” within the speaker fee. These expenses may be charged as a flat rate “Travel Expense” surcharge, or broken down by category (Airfare / Mileage / Hotel / Per-Diem) based on the client preference.

    6. OTHER POTENTIAL SURCHARGES

We may impose additional surcharges for any of the following unique but occasional situations, on a case-by-case basis:

      • Short Notice / Rush Bookings
      • Multiple Presenters / Co-Presenters
      • Co-Teaching with Other Presenters (IE: Panel Discussions)
      • Evening, Weekend, or Holiday Presentations
      • Non-standard venue setup / troubleshooting
      • Custom curriculum or multimedia
      • Major course overhaul
